From modern pieces to antiques, wood furniture is often a prized possession, as well as an expression of our individual personalities and taste. Furniture is also
one of the largest investments
you will make in your lifetime
and it deserves the best care
you can give it.
All wood is susceptible to
damage from the environment
within our homes. Even in
normal everyday use, there's
a danger of scratching and
abrasion. Often when furniture
is neglected over a period
of time, only costly refinishing
can restore it.
OLD ENGLISH® offers you
a wide range of products to
provide the protection and
conditioning your furniture
deserves for virtually any
wood finish.
So how do you keep your furniture
looking its best?

There are a number of things
you can do to help keep your
furniture looking like new.
We recommend the use of OLD ENGLISH® Furniture Polish
Aerosol or OLD ENGLISH®
Furniture Wipes as a dusting
aid that will provide a fresh
protective coating every time
you dust your furniture. Some
additional tips include…
- Keep furniture out of
bright sunlight and damp
areas.
- Wipe up spills immediately
and be careful with liquids
that can damage the finish
such as nail polish and
polish remover, perfumes,
alcoholic beverages, paint
or paint thinner.
- Use protective pads to
protect tables from hot
dishes or heavy accessories.
- Always lift heavy objects;
don’t drag them across
the surface of the wood.
- Keep your wood furniture
polished to help protect
against damage.
So why is it necessary to
polish your wood furniture?

Today’s furniture is
protected with high-gloss,
low-gloss, satin, or matte
finishes. When you polish
your furniture, you are really
polishing the finish and helping
it to continue to protect
the wood. The finish keeps
the surface from accumulating
dirt, helps protect against
scratches, indentations and
changes in the wood’s
color. It also impedes the
exchange of moisture between
the wood and the atmosphere.
This exchange often causes the wood
to crack and split. OLD ENGLISH®
products provide the right
kind of polishing and protection
for virtually all types of wood
surfaces.
So what’s the best
method for polishing furniture?

Keeping your furniture looking
new doesn’t have to be
complicated. For everyday use
try OLD ENGLISH® Furniture
Polish Aerosol. It helps keep
your furniture clean by picking
up dust and soil, leaving
behind a residue free finish.
OLD ENGLISH® Furniture Polish Aerosol contains a PROTECTIVE SHIELD FORMULA
that helps protect against everyday wear and tear such as watermarks and stains from crayons, candle wax, and mustard.
When polishing your furniture
use old cloth diapers, terry
towelling, cotton knitwear
or flannel cloths. Soft paper
towels can also be safely
used and will give excellent
results. Types of cloths to
avoid: coarse material, old
clothing that may have buttons,
snaps or trim that will scratch
the finish and synthetics
or permanent press fabrics
which will not absorb moisture
or excess oils. For extra
convenience and great results,
try OLD ENGLISH® Furniture
Wipes.
To conserve oils in fine antique furniture, prevent cracking in older, lacquer finished surfaces, and for open grain oil finished surfaces (such as Scandinavian furniture), use OLD ENGLISH® Oil.
What about everyday wear and tear?

Use a product designed specifically for treating everyday injuries to your wood furniture. OLD ENGLISH® Scratch Cover is a liquid polish designed to hide nicks and scratches in fine wood furnishings, paneling and kitchen cabinets. It is available in two formulas. For dark woods like mahogany and cherry use OLD ENGLISH® Dark Wood Scratch Cover. For medium to light woods like pine and oak use OLD ENGLISH® Light Wood Scratch Cover. To use, lightly moisten a dry cloth with OLD ENGLISH® Scratch Cover and apply gently to damaged area. Allow the furniture to absorb the liquid, then buff to a shine. Use with care to avoid staining clothing, carpets, etc.
Wax drippings can be especially difficult to treat, but not impossible. If wax is still soft, harden wax by holding an ice cube wrapped in plastic over it. Next, push it loose with non-stick spatula or a plastic card. If there is any waxy residue remaining, remove with OLD ENGLISH® Furniture Polish. Consistent use of OLD ENGLISH® Furniture Polish Aerosol helps protect against everyday stains, such as wax crayons, candle wax, and mustard.
NOTE: Hot wax is capable of penetrating the finish. The coloring material and oils in the wax may stain the wood making it impossible to remove.
